Journalists at Ringier put their heart and soul into their work for Switzerland’s biggest media brand - Blick. Strategy / Business Development
Business Development is responsible for planning and implementing transformation projects. Our strategists, consultants and business developers work together on expanding existing fields of business and acquiring new ones. Since the department is involved in transformation processes of all areas within Ringier, the day-to-day work is extremely varied and offers a wealth of opportunities for individuals to develop and progress in.

The Customer Service Centre provides professional advice to Ringier’s publishing clients in German-speaking countries. It provides information about the products of Ringier AG, as well as dealing with enquiries from callers. The Finance department accompanies our publishing house’s transformation into a technologized media company by ensuring that strategic goals are implemented in a value-oriented way. The Corporate Communications team handles the internal and external communications of the Ringier Group and ensures an authentic brand presence. It publishes regular newsletters, intranet articles and a staff magazine, as well as organising events. The Human Resources department is responsible for talent and performance management, employer branding and recruitment, HR controlling and the development of the management culture.

Apprenticeships at Ringier
Apprentices at Ringier not only learn a lot – they are also able to expand their passion for their new profession. They can always count on the professional and personal support of our experienced employees. Those taking their first career steps a with us also appreciate the strong bond between our apprentices. They spend a lot of time together during lunch or on organised trips and everyone looks out for each other.
The apprenticeships starting in summer 2020 have all been filled. Apprenticeships starting in summer 2021 will be published under Jobs from August 2020.
Apprenticeships are only available in German-speaking Switzerland.
Commercial apprentices change departments every six months during their three-year apprenticeship, which gives them exposure to a variety of areas. For example, they gain an insight into the newsroom of the Blick Group, spend time in the editorial offices of Schweizer Illustrierte, the business magazine Bilanz, and our online marketplace Geschenkidee.ch.
Their job in the different departments is to look after the advertising clients, readers, listeners and viewers and to assist with productions. Commercial employees accompany the entire creative process, from the creation of an article all the way to its publication. Alongside their practical work, the apprentices attend the KV business school in Zurich twice a week. For ‘E profile’ apprentices, this is reduced to once a week in the third year.
The programme opens numerous doors in the fields of communication and marketing, within media companies, book publishers, advertising and PR agencies, brokers and marketers, printers, or distributors of promotional products. However we always prefer our apprentices to stay with us after their training!
ICT specialists at Ringier support our employees independently or in collaboration with other specialists. They are responsible for the installation and maintenance of hardware and software, device configuration and ICT training and support.
To work as an ICT specialist at Ringier, our apprentices are not only expected to have a technical knowledge and an interest in IT, their social skills are just as important. After all, in order to offer the users (i.e. our employees) optimum support, they need to be friendly and communicate well.
During their three-year apprenticeship, the apprentices attend vocational school twice a week in the first year and once a week in the final two years. Most classes are held in Zurich, except for four external modules that are taught in Winterthur.

Die Lehre dauert 4 Jahre. Schulort für den IMD Lehrgang ist in Bern, wobei im 1. und 2. Lehrjahr jeweils 2 Schultage (exkl. BMS) und im 3. und 4. Lehrjahr jeweils 1 Schultag (exkl. BMS) Pflicht ist.
Wie sieht dein Arbeitsalltag als Interactive Media Designer:in bei Ringier aus?
- Die Aufträge kommen aus der Recherche, Nutzer-Feedback oder vom Newsroom.
- Alle Aufgaben werden im UX oder Product Team besprochen und gewichtet.
- Erste Entwürfe werden per Handskizzen oder deinem Lieblingsmedium erstellt.
- Für die Designarbeit am Computer verwenden wir hauptsächlich Figma, Photoshop und Illustrator.
- Enge Zusammenarbeit mit Entwicklern, sobald es um die technische Umsetzung geht.
- Du kannst alle Teile der Blick Webseite oder Apps mitgestalten.
Diesen Lehrberuf bilden wir erstmals ab August 2023 aus.
What would a modern media company be without functioning computers, servers, databases and systems? Nothing! Which is precisely why we need competent systems engineers.
During their training, the apprentices learn to plan, implement and manage larger IT systems. The security, protection and long-term archiving of large amounts of data are increasingly important factors hence the apprentices are taught database technologies and virtualisation.
Apprentices on the Helpdesk get a slightly different insight into the field by learning about installation and support for both Windows and Mac users.
Unlike apprentices in other professions, systems engineers are stationed in Zofingen and only spend a maximum of six months on the Helpdesk in Zurich. They attend vocational school twice a week in the first two years, then once a week from the third year. They can also choose to incorporate the federal vocational diploma into the apprenticeship period.

Blick NextGen Internship
As part of the NextGen internship programme, Blick offers six-month placements in a variety of editorial offices.
What does such an internship involve? Making coffee and filing documents? No! Blick interns work on relevant and exciting tasks, are given freedom to conduct their own projects, and have an opportunity to help shape the future of tabloid journalism.

Write a short script and get everything ready for your video. Choose a good place to record your video. Make sure it’s bright enough and your voice is audible. Pay attention to your posture and expressions, and be yourself. The video should give us an idea of who you are and why you want to join Ringier. Bear in mind the clip should be no longer than 2-3 minutes and the file size no larger than 50 MB.

Your CV is a crucial part of the application process. It should be well-structured and provide a clear and engaging overview of your background:
It should include your personal details (name, email address, telephone number), schools attended, trial apprenticeships, language and IT skills, experience abroad, hobbies and other activities worth mentioning.
References such as a teacher or your supervisor during a trial apprenticeship are also useful.
Your cover letter should make us interested in you. Keep it clear, concise and personal. Explain why you’re applying for the position and what you find interesting about the profession. Do some research on Ringier and let us know why you want to do an apprenticeship at a media company. Mention if you’ve already completed a relevant trial apprenticeship or internship and tell us what you liked about it.
We’ll send you confirmation as soon as we’ve received your application documents. We’ll then try to give you feedback on the status of your application as soon as possible. This shouldn’t take more than two weeks.
We like to see that applicants have done as much research as possible about Ringier. Before the interview, you should also learn about the main tasks and responsibilities associated with the position. During the interview, we want to find out how keen you are to work for us and why we should choose you over anyone else. It’s therefore helpful to consider in advance which experiences or skills make you the perfect person for the role.
We want to get to know the real you. So we won’t ask you to wear a suit if that’s not your style. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and that your choice of outfit is appropriate for a professional meeting.
Take time answering each question, instead of rushing. This allows you to provide a relevant response to the interviewer’s question. It is also an advantage if possible, to support your answers with examples of work you have done at school or in other jobs.

Between theory and practice
The Ringier School of Journalism has been helping to promote quality journalism on a purely private basis for more than 45 years.
The training prepares young talent for the challenges of modern journalism. In addition to the traditional aspects of the craft, they also learn all about the digital side, making them perfectly equipped to deliver everything that journalism calls for: facts and correlations, stimulation and entertainment. The two-year training programme is dedicated entirely to the practice of journalism. Students are given practical training on everyday editorial work in an office environment, as well as being taught theory in a classroom setting. This dual concept is based on the successful Swiss apprenticeship model.

The Römerhalde Villa in Zofingen is bright, airy and spacious, making it the perfect place to study in peace. In 1974, the newly established Ringier School of Journalism was allowed to turn this residence of the Ringier family into a learning space.
The Römerhalde Villa is situated in a large park on a hillside, just outside the city’s historical centre. The property is a 15-minute walk from Zofingen train station.
